Infrastructure digitalisation crucial to achieving UN 2030 Agenda objectives

PRESS NOTE - Arzignano (VI) - november 22, 2023

The surveillance of infrastructures possible thanks to monitoring, maintenance and control tools based on digital technologies is a crucial point of the Italian procurement code (”codice degli appalti”). The deputy minister for infrastructure and transport, Galeazzo Bignami, recently stated how this type of surveillance must enter the control system in a more definitive way, being a driving force for innovating the Public Administration sector.

This is also a critical element for Italy's sustainability objectives, as envisaged by Goal 9 of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development dedicated to "Innovation, Business and Infrastructure". An update on how Italy is positioning itself with respect to this European objective was provided by the ASviS 2023 Report, which highlighted that "the state of the country's infrastructure still appears rather inadequate to the challenges of sustainability and presents shortcomings on which it is necessary to intervene with urgency". ASviS has therefore identified 9 proposals to accelerate the achievement of this goal, for which time is quickly running out. Among the proposals are:

  • investments in sustainable infrastructure, strengthening the resilience of existing ones to climate change and adopting sustainability criteria when designing new ones.
  • integration between physical and digital infrastructures to encourage predictive maintenance and rational use of resources and production inputs.
  • strengthening research and innovation, investing more in universities, research centers and innovative companies and ensuring the training of the necessary skills.

Franchetti SpA is already positioned to provide companies, public concessionaires and public administration bodies with the tools necessary to improve the control and monitoring system of infrastructures - in particular bridges, viaducts, road and railway networks. Franchetti SpA, listed on the Euronext Growth Milan segment of the Italian Stock Exchange (Ticker BIT: FCH), has developed proprietary software suites that exploit the potential of artificial intelligence and predictive data analysis in order to allow predictive programming of maintenance on infrastructure networks.

The company also announced a hiring plan of approximately 50 professionals by 2024 (15 of which have already been hired in the first nine months of 2023) and the launch of an Academy that will allow talents to grow within the company and develop the necessary skills internally, being able to access a wealth of information as well as the Company's many years of experience in the field of predictive maintenance.
